My turkey baster idea was a flop...

I like to make the girls Kong treats that I can freeze to give them hours of enjoyment- actually they only last 30 minutes are so. When I leave for work I give them each one and by the time I get to work and check Limo Cam they both have finished with them or close to it. The frozen ones give them at least an extra 10 mins-15 mins.

I mix in plain yogurt, peanut-butter, some soaked kibble (EVO) and some dog treat dust (I always empty the crumbs into a little container to save for Kongs) . I have a can of tomato paste too to add to it.
I stop of up the little Kong hole with a Puperoni or something similar, they really need to invent an eatable plug to go with these Kongs....

So then came my bright idea so I thought. I would make it all up in a bowl and make it liquidity and pastey and then I would suck it out with a turkey baster and all it's contents would be transferred into the Kong. :-( It didn't work. It would only suck up a little bit at a time and then some of the kibble would get clogged in the hole. I even cut the tip of the t. baster off so the opening would be bigger and that didn't work either. I had to resort back to making it a bit thicker and just sliding it in with a butter knife.

So what other Kong mixtures can I make up for them to try?

I have the same problem when I try to treat my doggies. Even the large breed treats that are advertised to last for hours disappear quickly.
We timed them once, Comet was through his in just under 10 minutes and Misty's lasted about 20. Then again she always eats slower than he does so that wasn't a surprise.

Denise, create your mixture in a big ziplock bag. When you are ready to fill Kongs, just cut the tip off one of the corners at the bottom of the bag and you have a super easy way to fill numerous kongs.

I have used creme cheese, shredded cheese, cottage cheese, soup, canned veggies, etc. as well as what you are already doing.

I was just about to say the same thing Jen did.

Hmm...I saw you comment about freezing the kongs on Sidetracked - we have kongs too - the really expensive $16 Kong Extreme ones - my dogs can shred one of those in a day - kid you not. Its not even the Sheppard doing it - its the lab!

So I try not to encourage them to shred the kongs - I like to use them to throw cause they don't get all nasty...but I may try freezing their next beef marrow bone.

on very special days, i put marshmallows to plug the hole in the bottom of the kong before filling it with a blend of peanut butter, cookies, applesauce, and the occasional leftover of some sort - turkey, chicken or other tasty.

lovely photo ;)
